Aadhaar Card is one of the most important document introduced by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Government of India. The Agency was founded in 2009 and today, almost every resident Indian is having his/her own Aadhaar Card. Aadhaar is a valid identity as well as address proof which can be used in many applications. It is a single valid document for the purpose of KYC (Know Your Customer), as required by banks for account opening, credit card/loan applications and telecom companies for new connection etc. If you have Aadhaar, you have all the required documents in majority of the cases.
An Aadhaar Card is not a proof of Indian Citizenship. Rather, it’s a proof that the person holding it is residing in India. So it’s more of a residence proof than Citizenship proof such as Passport.
